Papa Joes
I guess Papa Joes is a love it or hate it pub. Personally, I really like it, even though it's undoubtedly the smallest pub in the town. The decor is very much made to look like a traditional olde world pub, lots of dark wood, and the walls are adorned with maritime memoriabilia.
It's very much a pub that becomes your local, you can walk in on your won, prop yourself up at the bar and not feel like a complete "Scott no Friends". The bar staff are friendly, although the bar is pretty small, so you never see more than two people working at the one time.
The clientele is vast and varied, from the "more mature" regulars down to the younger people that are looking for some good music and friendly atmosphere.
My only criticism is the coke, which is really weak, and really destroys a good JD and coke. Papa Joes, like almost all pubs in the town now, serve 35ml spirits measures, and the prices are about average for the town.
Definitely one of my favourite pubs in the town, and coming from the North of the town, a great starting place for a pub crawl.
