Inverness
Inverness is Scotland's newest city, granted new city status as one of these acts for the "new millenium". This, unlike most of these projects (Dome, enough said), was actually a good idea, as it has recognised Inverness's place as the Capital of the Highlands. With a population of only 42,000 it is significantly smaller than the other Scottish cities, but in recent years has seen major growth both in industry and population.
Sitting on the banks of the River Ness, which flows from the largest fresh water loch in Western Europe, Loch Ness. Many club goers have claimed to have been attacked by the Loch Ness monster after leaving a venue, but this is usually just a lame attempt to cover up for being so drunk they fell and hit the pavement.
Inverness is small enough to maintain it's smalltown feel and quaintness, but it's current growth should see a corresponding increase in nightlife, but should hopefully retain it's quite unique atmosphere.
