Glasgow

Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland, formerly the Second City of the Empire, and at its peak home to over a million people. These days Glasgow has between 600 and 700 thousand people living within the city boundaries, and many more commute in each day to work.

Like Edinburgh to the East, Glasgow considers itself a cultural city, and an extensive regeneration programme in the City Centre (CC) has resulted in attractive pedestrianised precincts that are busy both during the day and at night with the large number of pubs and clubs situated within the city centre.

The West End (WE) is the most desirable area of Glasgow to live in, with the benefits of several parks including Kelvingrove Park and the Botanic Gardens, as well as a host of small quaint pubs. From September to June the area is home to many thousand students attending Glasgow University, and so, like the City Centre, has many pubs catering towards students, with low prices, special offers and student discounts.

The city is home to no less than 3 universities, Glasgow, Strathclyde, and Glasgow Caledonian. These Universites, along with the numerous colleges in the city creates a large student population who are well catered for by the large number of pubs and clubs in the city.

The University Unions are abbreviated as follows within the site:

  • Glasgow University Union - GUU
  • Glasgow Queen Margaret Union - GQM
  • Strathclyde Union - SU
  • Glasgow Caledonian Union - GCU

Major fire guts The Shack and Trash - By nawckz - 26th Nov 2004
A major fire broke out at 5am this morning gutting The Shack and Trash. It is believed the fire started in Trash and spread to the Shack. No injuries are reported but there is extensive damage to the building with the interior completely destroyed. Pitt Street and Bath Street are both closed and there is severe distruption to traffic in the area.

Two NightB4 users have uploaded photos of the aftermath -

New forums - By nawckz - 16th Feb 2003
Now that the forums are being used more we thought it was time to give them a new look. The whole forum system has been completely redesigned and hopefully will be a vast improvement on the previous system.

A few other changes to how NightB4 accounts work as well - you can now enter profile information, you can remember your login (so you don't have to enter it each time you visit), and when registering you must now confirm the account. See the help pages for more information about the last two.

Updating of Maps - By Enigma - 16th Dec 2002
We're updating the maps for Glasgow over the next couple of days, so if you find that a venue has the wrong location then check back later in the week and it should be sorted.

We apologise for any inconveniance.
