This used to be an OK pub when it was a pound a pint despite the grunge/goth/weirdo crowd that drank there.I believe it's had a coat of paint since those days but as I haven't been back since they put the prices up I can't comment on whether it's an improvement or not.

am loving pub somewhere else just now. bar staff are incredibly friendly, and no one bats an eyelid at me n the girls in our usualoutfits of not very much (!) despite the fact that we are the outsiders there. kinda makes me think bout my own attitudes to people...
pub is great, drink is cheap, and yeah, hairy dave does rock!! (as i have told him several times!!)

The balcony bar is one of the only pubs left in the town with an alternative heart. Frequented by all different types of people into alternative music (rock, metal, punk, goth/industrial etc) this is a great place to go for a friendly pint, to stay the whole evening or before you head out clubbing.
There's also two pool tables, darts and a rather noisy but essential 'puggy' machine to play with.
As far as music goes, sometimes they have DJ's on (at the moment this is Thurdays and Fridays but this may be subject to change at any time) and other times the CD player is usually playing something decent.
Beware of the flight of stairs when you're drunk though!!!
The bar stocks a reasonable variety of alcaholic beverages and the bar staff are always friendly.

Still very cheap, attracts a rather odd ('alternative') crowd, but still quite a nice pub. Went there a few times and never felt out of place or anything - plenty of normal people to balance it all out and everyone is very pleasant, friendly and accepting.
