Big G, have you ever even been there on a Saturday? I go most weeks and I have never heard a single garage or track - there's the odd bit of electro, and sometimes they have what's unofficially known as the 'Northern Soul Half Hour'. And while there may be some indie rock, there's a lot of twee indie too eg. Belle & Sebastian. So don't let the prospect of garage and house put you off...

I agree with Dickson (outrageously plugging is own night)that the Wee Red is one of Edinburgh's hidden gems. Class music and people up for having a good time without any pretence. Now lets keep it that way....

The Wee Red Bar is one of Edinburgh's best kept secrets. Small and intimate, this great venue is in the Edinburgh Art College complex, on Lauriston place. There are a range of nights on there, but 4 weekly on Fridays Spectral plays the deepest, funky, groovy House. The music is brilliant, the atmosphere is super-friendly, it is like clubs should be. Residents Dave Anderson and Phil Dickson build the night up from ambient soundscapes, through dubby, funky house and the grooviness builds from there. Next night for Spectral is March 15th, with resident Phil Dickson supporting special guest Hobbes (Sputnik). The Wee Red Bar has the cheapest drinks in town, so come along early to soak up the atmosphere.
