The Anchor is proper Bo. Good, unpretentious atmosphere and decent malts make a happy stop on the way from the Flannigans area to McCabe's/the George (or even the Fiddlers if you're that way inclined).

Ye Olde Anchor Inn is certainly the best pub in the
whole world. We have spent a lot time there, and
enjoyed the cosy atmosphere.
A special greetings to all of the "boys, and a special
greeting to Julie and Niven.
We miss you all a lot.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all.
Many thoughts from Mona & Jorgen, Denmark
Hope to visit you next year.

This is a fabulous place for a drink and a chat, also, the live accordian playing on weekends just smacks of 'flavour' as in Scottish! The people there are friendly and being in ' brigadoon ' springs to mind. A real get away from it all, relax, enjoy place.

The anchor has been there for donkey's years and you can still here tales of old fish and stale ale if you hang around long enough.
Many people cannot stand up straight due to the tudoresque struts while the tv might as well be a pocket one.
However, there is no doubting the character of Niven's pub and it comes into its own during winter when a roaring fire and some traditional music gets the place going.
While it seems to be an 'old yin's' pub there is always a fair amount of youthful traffic passing between Flannigan's and McCabe's.

I'd always walked past this one but popped in one night to break the journey between Toby's and Flannigans. I was glad I did. The low ceiling, warm decor and friendly staff made this a cosy bar. The accordian band, complete with Arran jumpers seemed to fit in perfectly here. If you're grown-up enough not to worry about street cred this pub is well worth a visit. Definately a pub for the older crowd or if you fancy a quiet pint or 2 before gathering yourself for the bedlam of Macauleys or the stampede up to Fiddlers.
